Scaling a niche gaming brand through strategic distribution and procurement in the Philippines
The Challenge
When GameCove started, the opportunity in the retro handheld gaming segment was clear — but execution was difficult. Retro handheld brands such as Anbernic were primarily manufactured in China with inconsistent distributor access, and most units entered the Philippine market through grey imports or small hobby shops without reliable inventory.
Ordering directly from overseas suppliers involved long lead times, complex logistics, and high MOQ requirements. Consumers were hesitant to purchase from unknown sellers due to warranty, authenticity, and after-sales support concerns.
GameCove wanted to expand to online marketplaces, retail kiosks, and partner resellers, but lacked the procurement and logistics backbone to support it. Without a reliable supply chain and distribution structure, growth was constrained even though demand from retro gaming enthusiasts was increasing.
Our Approach
Luxium Trading Co. stepped in as the procurement, distribution, and logistics backbone behind GameCove, focusing on four pillars.
First, Luxium established direct procurement channels with manufacturers like Anbernic, negotiating bulk purchasing agreements, securing better unit pricing through volume consolidation, and managing factory communication and production schedules — ensuring authentic units with warranty support.
Second, Luxium centralized the importation process. Instead of GameCove handling imports itself, Luxium coordinated international freight, customs clearance, import compliance, and warehouse receiving — transforming unpredictable 3–6 week shipping into structured cycles with consolidated container shipments and reduced per-unit freight costs.
Third, Luxium developed GameCove's distribution network across e-commerce platforms (Shopee, Lazada), direct website sales, retail kiosk expansion, gaming community resellers, and tech hobby shops. Luxium handled inventory allocation and fulfillment, allowing GameCove to focus on brand building.
Finally, Luxium implemented demand forecasting, pre-order batch procurement, SKU lifecycle planning, and safety stock buffers to ensure high-demand launches had proper restock plans.
Results
Through the partnership, GameCove transitioned from a small niche reseller into a structured gaming hardware retailer. Approximately 3,000–8,000 retro handheld units were distributed across multiple models. Procurement timelines were reduced from 30–45 days of unpredictable sourcing to structured procurement cycles.
Distribution expanded to online marketplaces, direct sales, and physical retail opportunities, with 10–30 reseller and retail partners served. The product catalog grew from a few SKUs to multiple handheld models and accessories.
The partnership created a repeatable business model for niche gaming hardware distribution — one built on reliable supply chains, lower cost structures through bulk procurement, brand legitimacy through warranty-backed authentic products, and scalable growth infrastructure.
